Hello, how is this ability meant to be read? Do I encounter the character who drew the event after I also encounter the event? I'm confused

No. You just encounter that 3 cards alongside the character that drew them. You do not move to their space.

I was thinking that too, but after re-reading it, it just occurred to me that it's written awkwardly.
